Matt Spiegel's love affair with sports can be traced to his brother's bedroom wall in New Jersey in 1974. On one side was a collage of the undefeated Miami Dolphins with Csonka, Griese, and the No-Name defense. On the other side was a large-scale painted replica of Fenway Park. Matt's older brother had slots for baseball cards taped to the wall, and would listen to Red Sox games, moving the cards around the field to mirror the play-by-play. Four-year old Matt was hooked.
Matt studied broadcasting at Emerson College in Boston, which was an elaborate excuse to hit 20-30 games a year at Fenway. He won several sportscasting awards while at Emerson, and spent his summers in New York as an intern with This Week in Baseball, doing important things like fetching Mel Allen coffee.
Throughout the 90s, Matt was a producer, reporter, and talk show host at The Score Sports Radio 670 in Chicago, getting the chance to cover Michael Jordan in his heyday, Sammy Sosa as a youngster, and Mike Ditka on his way out.
Today, Matt lives with a great wife and a cool dog, patiently waiting for the next pitcher as cool as Luis Tiant.
